The project is funded through an IBM faculty award and my primary research interests include data mining, crowdsourcing and information visualization.

4.5 year integrated Masters, with a focus on programming, project management and visualization of large datasets (e.g. high resolution census data, volumetric medical data, and financial trend analysis). Collaboration with researchers at the University of Oulu and several regional public sector organizations on modeling of traffic and pedestrian flows in the city of Oulu.

Design and development of software tools to assist maintenance staff of petrol station companies in their daily monitoring of hundreds of petrol stations and thousands of pumps. The work included development of a back-end system of statistics-based automated alerts, performance tuning of database queries, front-end user interface design with extensive use of visualization techniques, development of business intelligence tools for corporate management and participatory design with frequent usability testing.
MSc Thesis - Visualizing the Ethiopian Commodity Market
2009, January – May, Ethiopia Commodity Exchange, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Requirements elicitation, development and evaluation of specialized data visualization tools for supporting the exchange's market surveillance staff in their daily process of detecting market manipulation and fraud. In addition, I developed public visualizations of market trends for the exchange's website. The project was carried out in close collaboration with the exchange's senior management and analysts, and its 100 000 SEK budget was supported by three scholarships.
Research Engineer
2008, June – December, National Center for Visual Analytics, Linköping University, Sweden
Reworked the internal data handling of an in-house developed research framework for information visualization (C#, .NET, DirectX 9.0) to support hierarchical and implicit data, value aggregation and non-numeric data. I also developed a GUI for dataset management, a treemap implementation and a demonstrational application that linked the treemap with a choropleth map, scatter plot and parallel coordinates plot to visualize hierarchical census data from OECD and Statistics Sweden.

Development of a browser plug-in for embedding interactive hardware accelerated (Direct3D) data visualizations in HTML documents. The work also included documentation, development of examples and other component development for an in-house developed visualization framework.
